Ian Casey is a senior journalist and academically trained screenwriter.
With over 13 years at BBC News, Ian has covered the most high-profile and challenging news stories of the last decade and beyond.
He has used his creative edge and love for storytelling to communicate current affairs with audiences, through articles and video treatments.
From covering global conflicts, to political scandals, to science, the environment history, arts and entertainment and many more subjects, Ian’s work has reached millions of people.
While continuing in the world of news and current affairs, Ian is emerging as a screenwriter, trained at Birkbeck, the University of London.
His unique, in-depth knowledge of world events is intertwined with his honed craft of creative writing.
As per his portfolio of scripts intended for film and television, Ian’s passions lie in writing historical, crime, LGBTQ+ and biopic dramas, but can easily turn his hand and artistic eye to stories of any genre, style or platform.
Ian has lived and worked in London for the last 10 years, after residing for a time in both Liverpool and Cardiff.
He was born and raised in North Wales, and very regularly returns. He is proud and passionate about his Welsh roots.
He is endlessly inspired by the stories of the people and the world around him, which he believes began in his most formative years when he’d much prefer bedtime stories from his grandfather – about his life starting in the late 1920s - rather than books.
Ian completed a B.A honours in Media, Film and Television, in 2013. His 1st class dissertation piece, a coming-of-age short film called ‘Picking up the Pieces’, was chosen to represent the UK at Hong Kong International Student Film Festival.
