STUART PICKERING
Stuart trained as an actor in the late 90s at De Montfort University and has appeared in several theatre productions over the years. He also appeared in a Comedy Sketch show as part of the 24/7 Manchester Theatre festival. And then went on to have a dabble with stand up comedy.
Unfortunately in 2016 Stuart woke up with no vision, although everything was done to try and redeem his sight, he was left with just a tiny pocket of vision in his left eye and was subsequently registered blind in 2024.
Although it has been a difficult and stressful time, Stuart has been able to adapt to his condition and is still able to continue his career as an actor. Stuart has also had a keen interest in and a passion for comedy writing, he has spent the last ten years fine tuning his writing skills and although on occasion has struggled to type, this has not held him back and with the use of advancing technology has been able, to use dictation as a medium to put pen to paper. Stuart has just completed a six episode sitcom called THE FAVOURITE inspired by the likes of THE ROYAL FAMILY and EARLY DOORS. Stuart predominantly uses relatable characters, using typical everyday conversations to bring his comedy to life.
THE FAVOURITE is a character driven comedy set in a struggling high street betting shop where the real stakes have little to do with gambling and everything to do with the people who gather there. Stuart likes to draw in on the seemingly mundane lives of everyday people, using lived experiences as a point of research.
Having had several table reads with professional actors, including the likes of John Henshaw, Joan Kempson, Ben Crompton... to name a few, the feedback received has been extremely positive for THE FAVOURITE .
As well as THE FAVOURITE, Stuart has also started writing another sitcom which again is drawn from life experiences, it explores the story of a male, whose life is turned upside down when he wakes up one morning with no vision. Although this would seem quite a strange topic to write a comedy about, as always, there is plenty of comedy to be found within tragedy.
Finally Stuart is currently also working with North West Comedian Hayley Ellis, on a pilot of a sitcom based in a call centre in Manchester, again with the use of relatable characters it aims to provide a slice of everyday life in a 24 hour call centre.
